Last week, The Crimson to a sharp increase in the number of students interested in political issues. For me, this is an exciting development. We are all part of the body politic in one way or another, whether we like it or not. And if we do not like it, which is not an emotion rare today, there is only one way to change, and it is through participation.

A large part of our government is composed of organizations to achieve a goal or another nature and in a manner which are not radically different organizations in the private sector. Of course, some organizations are unique, as the army or the Internal Revenue Service, but they always follow the principles of organization, would be followed, they would not be enemies.

The official government machine is quite different. It is a little different within the executive, plus several of justice, and quite different when it comes to the legislature. The essence of the legislative process is that there are a number of people - the voters - want to achieve something good. These people have a lot of agents acting on their behalf and for the long term, each officer has the power insofar as it is, in some of his constituency effectively. It is a good thing all politicians feel in his bones. It makes sense for all these people, trust and support him and, if it is wise, he never lost contact with them.

The legislature of Massachusetts is an unusual body. It is a tradition which, normally honored with a job offer with an old right of access of every citizen. He mixes rather large in local communities and especially any questions, clarifications on the staff of public bodies, rental of real estate, local water supply and the town of landfills, etc. One reason is that, unlike most other countries except Hawaii and Indiana, the capital is located in the state’s largest city. It is much more difficult to maintain if we must trust them, against their will in a considerable number of cases.

A second myth is that a clear, gongs a statement of general principle is a viable solution to a problem. It is often a first step, but it is only a first step.
